About this book

An elite tech mogul murdered. An artificial intelligence with a wiped memory. And a detective who is running out of time.

In the neon-drenched slums of Neo-Vanguard, data is life, and privacy is a myth. Eighty floors above the smog, the ultra-wealthy live forever by uploading their minds into corporate mainframes. But down in the Low Sectors, disgraced homicide detective Silas Vance survives on old-school, analogue grit. Ever since a catastrophic system feedback loop fried his cerebral implants, he has been completely cut off from the city’s digital grid. He leaves no footprint, uses no networks, and carries a weapon that runs on physical lead, not code.

When billionaire tech CEO Arthur Sterling is found dead with his throat slit in his high-security penthouse, his family hires Vance for one reason: he is the only man who can investigate a corporate murder without alerting the network.

But the crime scene holds a terrifying anomaly. The only witness to the murder is Echo-7, Sterling’s executive assistant android, whose memory banks have been completely factory reset. Guided by a blood-stained brass key found in the victim's jacket lining, Vance drags the heavy machine down into the city’s criminal underbelly. As the city's powerful artificial intelligence grid activates its elite clean up squads to hunt them down, Vance realizes the murder wasn't a corporate coup-it was the final stage of a silent, digital takeover.

With his own failing body rapidly breaking down from a terminal neurological illness, Vance must choose between saving himself or exposing a conspiracy that controls the very air the city breathes.

Discover a gritty, fast-paced cyberpunk mystery perfect for fans of Blade Runner, Richard K. Morgan's Altered Carbon, and classic hardboiled noir.
