About this book

A desperate deal is made between a certain money lender and smuggler, a known double-dealer named Kinkaid. A life for a life to the dark, mysterious fugitive, Lord William Crandall.

A beautiful and clever young woman of the countryside village of Gales-Faerie Way, Cara of Swans, lives a pleasant, simple life caring for her grandmother, Grammy Swan, in a little cottage by a pond where swans and pixies, sprites, sylphs, and nixies watch over her. Her days are spent in herb gardens, swan watching, and daydreaming with a precious mandolin, the only remaining token of her beloved mother. Unexpectedly, a visitor comes to Gales-Faerie Way and uproots Cara from the only home and life she has known. To the Academy of Eastwell she must go, in the township of Willow Mantle. There she is fostered to the grim manor of Lord and Lady Crandall.

Thankfully, Cara is not alone! A fairy, Sadie, "Stinger First Class" is there to keep watch... and a noble and roguishly handsome squire, Brandon of House Cygnus presents a helping companion as well as a few other friends as well, including an overly eager and enthusiastic sun-elf blade dancer, Katie, and a troubled and sensitive moon-elf wizard who seeks their inner truth and peace.

As more rumors and secrets are revealed of Cara's dark hosts, it will be up to Cara and her new companions to find the truth behind Lord Crandall and why he wanted Cara so badly....

The journey for answers only seems to darken when answers are revealed. Plots, schemes, and back-stabbings and betrayals abound as Lord Crandall's true lineage is revealed!
