About this book

She came to restore a historic inn. She stayed to break a 137-year-old curse.
Alex Chen is starting over at forty-two—freshly divorced, newly out, and desperate for a clean slate. A six-month restoration project at a remote New England inn seems perfect. Until she discovers a sealed room containing the impossibly preserved body of a woman who disappeared in 1887.

Local history professor Sam Blackwood knows her family's dark secret: every Blackwood woman who dares to love deeply loses everything. Three of Sam's own relationships ended in tragedy. Now she keeps everyone at arm's length—until Alex's investigation reveals the truth. The Blackwood women aren't unlucky. They're cursed. And the curse specifically targets sapphic love.

Breaking it will require the one thing it was designed to destroy: choosing love anyway.

As supernatural attacks escalate and the curse fights back, Alex and Sam must decide—sacrifice themselves to end it, or do what Lily Blackwood and her lover Margaret couldn't: refuse to hide, refuse shame, and transform hatred into hope.

Perfect for readers who love: mature sapphic romance, atmospheric Gothic mysteries, late-blooming queer joy, found family, and stories where love becomes revolution.

Tropes: Grumpy/Sunshine, Outsider/Local, Historical Ghosts, Academic Research Montages, Small Town New England, Curse-Breaking Through Marriage

A standalone cozy mystery where two women in their forties prove it's never too late to live authentically—or to fall impossibly in love.
