About this book
Aelar Dawnroot was raised to believe he was chosen, a healer shaped by divine purpose, a servant of the light. But when a creeping darkness begins swallowing villages whole and the Dawnroot priests refuse to act, Aelar discovers a truth that shatters everything he’s ever known.
The gods were never listening. The Dawnroot were never holy. And Aelar was never chosen.
Branded a heretic and hunted by the order that raised him, Aelar flees into a world unraveling under the weight of an ancient corruption. With only a battered staff, a handful of fading prayers, and the loyalty of Joren, a blacksmith with a warrior’s heart . Aelar uncovers forbidden histories, lost bloodlines, and a power inside him that is neither divine nor cursed.
It is Lightborn.
As the darkness hunts him and the Dawnroot tighten their grip, Aelar must confront the truth buried beneath centuries of lies: his mother’s disappearance, the stolen children, the chained rituals, and the ancient hunger the priests have been feeding in secret.
To save the world, Aelar must become what the Dawnroot fear most, a light they cannot control.
