About this book
.
It is A Level results day and things couldn't be better for Ben and Ollie. Two strangers with their whole lives ahead of them, but Ben's girlfriend delivers a bombshell that sends him out on the road in a fit of rage and Ollie is killed instantly in the ensuing collision. Two mothers devastated; "Results Day" follows the roller-coaster of emotions as they come to terms with their losses and fears. Can Ollie's mum, Jess, move on from the hate she feels towards Ben and his mum? Can she save her marriage from being destroyed when she turns to drink and revenge? Can Ben's mum, Megan, convince her beloved boy that the one terrible mistake he made does not define him and save him from the dark thoughts that threaten to destroy him?
As their stories unfold, "Results Day" brings with it a number of contemporary and controversial issues. Ben is in prison with a young man who can barely read - a product of a "failed system"; both Ben and his cellmate are the victims of un-provoked prison violence. Ollie's girlfriend discovers that she is carrying his child - does Jess have any say in whether her son's only legacy survives...Megan is the victim of on-line trolling and abuse by would-be vigilantes, keen to see their idea of justice carried out and meanwhile, Jess's husband, Dan, seeks out Megan behind his wife's back in a bid to talk to someone who can help him to understand the tragedy that has affected them all.
"Results Day" is a powerful, emotional drama. If you like thought-provoking drama - think Jodie Picoult - this book is for you. If you enjoyed Emma-Claire Wilson's "This Child of Mine" and "When you were Mine," this book is for you.
