About this book

Megan Parker has always been the friend in the background: the one who stays steady while others shine.

On a summer hike at Blackstone Ridge, she and her best friend Lily split at a trail fork. Lily takes the scenic route. Megan heads back alone. Hours later, Lily hasn't returned.

The 911 call brings rangers, volunteers, and search dogs. The case seems straightforward, until a K9 loses the scent fifty feet from a rocky outcrop, and a cracked purple phone turns up on the trail Megan swore she walked alone.

Ranger Torres begins asking questions Megan can't answer without unraveling the lie she's built. Each search grid tightens around the truth. Each piece of evidence contradicts her story. And somewhere in the forest, time is running out.

Some secrets are buried deeper than others.
